Clearly he has cash to burn since his divorce from Juanita Jordan cost him $168 million. So a $10 million wedding is almost insulting if he spent that much to divorce his ex-wife.
But we digress. Over 300 of Michael and new wife Yvette Prieto’s closest friends and family came out to the lavish wedding in Jupiter, Florida.
Michael’s wedding is actually the most expensive celebrity wedding ever!
Well, not including the royals. Prince Charles and Diana spent $115 million (well, the British people did, isn’t that how UK government works?) and Prince William and Kate Middleton spent $33 million on their nuptials two years ago today!
But in terms of US royalty (i.e. celebrities) Michael Jordan had the most expensive wedding. See who else had stupidly ‘spensive nuptials.
Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel - $6.5 million: JT and Jessica were rumored to have spent $6.5 million this summer for their wedding because they basically rented out a coast of Italy, booked out an entire hotel, and reportedly closed down adjacent buildings to keep paparazzi out.
Elizabeth Taylor and Larry Fortensky- $3.8 million: Of course Liz Taylor had a $3.8 million wedding. That woman probably bathed in rubies. They paid $1 million in location fees alone to rent out Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch.
Paul McCartney and Heather Mills- $3 million: The former Beatle wed model Heather Mills in 2002 at a church in Ireland, but all the money was spent on a lakeside tent that featured an Indian-themed party and a vegetarian feast.
Elizabeth Hurley and Arun Nayer- $2.5 million: Liz Hurley and Indian businessman Arun Nayar spent 8 days getting married in a castle in England and then had a second traditional Indian ceremony in India.
Christina Aguilera & Jordan Bratman - $2 million: The wedding itself seems modest ($3500 a night cottage stays, 150 guests, tent reception) but somehow broke the bank at $2 million.
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes- $2 million: Are you noticing a trend; how none of the couples stayed together? Anyways, this wedding took place in a castle outside Rome and included a custom made Giorgio Armani gown for Kate.
Madonna and Guy Richie- $1.5 million: These two married in a castle (another damn castle!), they booked out all 21 rooms for their guests, and Madonna wore a tiara once worn by Princess Grace of Monaco. Over the top, much?
Brad and Jennifer Aniston- $1 million: This couple’s lavish wedding included 50,000 flowers and a fireworks display. We’ll find out if Brad and Angie’s wedding or Jen and Justin Theroux’s upcoming weddings will top the $1 million mark.
