University of Lagos (UNILAG) has been shut down

University of Lagos has been shut down following the protest by students over tuition hike. We learnt the Students blocked entrances to the school this morning, preventing vehicle from moving in and outside of the campus in protest against the hike.

One Feared Dead In UNIBEN Stampede

 Wednesday morning at the University of Benin (UNIBEN), was a bad for freshers in the school. It was gathered that scores of students sustained  injuries in the stampede, just as one of them was said to have died. However, there was no official confirmation about whether someone died. Covenant University Student Allegedly Expelled for Naked Viral Video

Hmmm, Nigeria youths are fond of posting everything about them on social media sad news for a 100-Level Covenant University student Bisi who was expelled after a video of her twerking naked has gone viral. In the clip, Bisi is seen completely naked, dancing and twerking with her fully clothed roommate who goes by the name MhiZ Jacklyn on Twitter. Bisi’s racy video is currently trending on Twitter. A few hours ago, the friend clarified that she didn’t leak the video. She claims that a male CU student took the video from the recycle bin on her laptop.

Mass failure as WAEC releases NOV/DEC results

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on Thursday released its 2013 November/December results with a total of 86,612 candidates, representing 29.17% of the total number of candidates who sat for the examination, obtained credits in five subjects and above including English Language and Mathematics. Announcing the result at the WAEC office, Yaba, Lagos, Head of National Office, Mr Charles Eguridu said that a total of 308,217 candidates registered for the Nov/Dec 2013 WASSCE. 82 blind candidates registered and sat for the examination. From the figure, he noted, 17 candidates, representing 20.73% obtained credits in 5 subjects including English Language and Mathematics. According to him, 296,827 candidates, consisting of 163,659 male and 133,168 female candidates sat for the examination. Out of the total of candidates, 299,784 candidates, representing 97.26% have their results fully released, while 8,433 candidates, representing 2.74% have a few of their subjects still being...

ASUU Finally Suspends Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), today, announced the suspension of its 6months old strike  - with immediate effect. The Union  suspended the strike after a marathon National Executive Committee meeting held in Minna, Niger State, yesterday. ASUU President, Dr. Nasir Fagge The different chapters of ASUU are expected to hold congress meetings on Wednesday following which academic activities  will resume in the universities. The meeting was deliberate over the agreement signed Wednesday, last week, by union executives and the federal government. The NEC meeting, Vanguard gathered was attended by ASUU branch chairmen and secretaries, the national executive members of the Union, coordinators and past leaders, including members from 52 universities. ASUU STRIKE Updates: Unilag divided; factional ASUU to resume today

Government’s deadline for the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) ends today, some lecturers of University of Lagos, have agreed to resume work today, five months after the strike. One of the lecturers, Dr Micheal Ogbeide, in an interview with the Nigerian Tribune, said some of them have decided to resume against the union’s position. He said, “I, alongside other lecturers, who are ready to resume work will go back to work as directed by the government, who owns the school.” Nigerian Tribune, gathered that the lecturers agreed to resume work, whether ASUU called off the strike or not, while some of them agreed out of fear of losing their jobs as threatened by government and/or exhaustion from the longevity of the five month-old-strike. ASUU suspends NEC meeting indefinitely

LEADERS of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, yesterday, suspended indefinitely the union’s National Executive Council, NEC, meeting planned to hold in Kano over the tragic auto-crash that claimed the life of ASUU former President, Professor Festus Iyayi, on Tuesday morning. Thousands of students who had kept vigil, waiting for the outcome of ASUU NEC meeting, therefore went home disappointed following the announcement of the suspension of the meeting. The accident which involved the convoy of Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State on Lokoja-Abuja Road also left two other officials of ASUU – Dr. Ngozi Ilo, National Welfare Officer, University of Benin, UNIBEN; branch chairman, Dr. Anthony Emina, and their driver, critically injured. There might be hope of an end to the long over due strike by ASUU after over 13 hours meeting held by President Goodluck Jonathan with executive members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) ended at 3.35am on Tuesday morning. The ASUU executives told reporters who had kept vigil at the State House that they would take the president's message back to their members. Though they came out smiling, the president, Dr. Nasir Fagge, did not say what the message was when he spoke with the correspondents. The Labour Minister, Emeka Wogu, who also spoke with the press, just said what was discussed did not go beyond the 2009 agreement.

NECO Releases 2013 May/June SSCE result

National Examinations Council, NECO, has released the 2013 Senior Schools Certificate Examinations results, a breakdown of the results shows that about 69.57% of the candidate had credit generally while most of the students also came out with good results in both English Language and Mathematics, according to the registrar Professor Promise Nwachukwu Okpala, one million, fifty two thousand, eight hundred and ninety eight, 1,052,898 candidates registered for the examinations.

ASUU Strike: Federal Government for talks Monday

Senator Anyim Pius Anyim the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), to meet with ASUU on Monday to address earned allowance and general university funding for infrastructure development. This was made known to newsmen by the Governor of Benue, Gabriel Suswam in Abuja after a meeting of ASUU with members of the committee on implementation of Needs Assessment Report to Nigerian Universities chaired by Suswan inaugurated earlier in the day by Anyim. Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) suspends Strike,,,gives Government 1 month to accede to their demands

Polytechnic students can now go back to school, after 81 days of sitting at home, as the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) suspends its strike today. Though they only suspended the strike as the union gave the government representatives one month to accede to their demands and release the white paper on the visitation panel to federal polytechnics. The ASUP Chairman however, called on all lecturers to go back to work. “All lecturers are to resume work at their various institutions today”, He said. Good news i think? but what about ASUU?
