Students Narrates Ordeal as Gunmen Storm their School in Lagos

 Suspected militants, yesterday, stormed Lagos State Model College, Igbonla in Eredo Local Council Development Area, Epe, Lagos State, kidnapping the school’s Vice Principal, a teacher and four students. The two students were later rescued by policemen who immediately arrived the scene. The gunmen, over 10, it was gathered, came through the waterways in three speed boats. They were said to have positioned themselves strategically, around the school building , while about six of them gained entrance into the school premises through a collapsed fence           One of the students "said that one of the gunmen, suspected to be the leader, instructed them to leave immediately when others were going to get more students. Lagos ranks world’s 3rd worst city to live in Global Liveability Ranking 2016

       The Economist Intelligence Unit released Global Liveability Ranking 2016 report, ranking Lagos as the third worst city to live, maintaining its position at the lowest rungs of the Global Liveability index. The top five best countries to live in, according to the report, remain unchanged from last year and they include Melbourne, Australian; Vienna, Austria; Vancouver, Canada; Toronto, Canada; and Calgary, Canada. The liveability survey assesses which locations around the world provide the best or the worst living conditions across five broad categories, including stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure. Lagos scored highest in culture and environment, followed by infrastructure. It scored lowest in stability. Three other African cities joined Lagos at the bottom rung of the liveable cities, including Douala, Cameroon; Harare, Zimbabwe; and Algiers, Algeria; ranking 132nd, 133rd, and 134th respectively. Breaking news: Court frees ex-Bank PHB boss Atuche

EFCC VS BANK PHB: A High Court in Lagos on Monday has dismissed the N25.7billion criminal charge against the former Managing Director of Bank PHB, Mr. Francis Atuche, and others. He was set free alongside his wife, Elizabeth and a former Chief Financial Officer of Bank PHB, Mr. Ugo Anyanwu. The three persons were prosecuted by the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly stealing N25.7 billion from the bank. In a ruling delivered by the presiding judge, Justice Lateef Lawal-Akapo, the court held that it is duty bound to comply with the decisions of Court of Appeal in the appeal of Okey Nwosu and Erastus Akingbola. The judge noted that though the prosecution, in its submission, was right to say that count one to ten of the charge was anchored on stealing which falls within the purview of State High Court. Lagosians To Face Penalty For Smoking In PUBLIC

No more smoking what ever in public places in Lagos state, i know the federal capital territory Abuja will soon copy that, On February 17th, 2014, Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola signed the “No Smoking in Public Places” bill into law to regulate smoking in public places. Mobil Petrol Station On Fire, 5 Vehicles Burnt

Fuel scarcity, at least five vehicles were burnt this morning after fire gutted Mobil petrol station on Oba Akran Avenue/Akilo Road, Ikeja, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria. Eyewitnesses said fire engulfed the petrol station after an oil tanker trying to discharge fuel spilled its content and it caught fire. The incident paralysed traffic for several hours around Ogba, Agege and Ikeja. Huge balls of fire were seen while thick smoke billowed into the atmosphere for over three hours as fire fighters battled to put out the fire to no avail. Boat Capsized In Lagos: 11 dead bodies recovered, 4 missing

The boat carrying 15 passengers reportedly capsized at the 4th Avenue, opposite 41 Road in Festac at about 11 PM and a distress call was sent to the Navy and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) asking for rescue. 11 dead bodies have been recovered, Search and Rescue operations are still on for four more bodies, according to emergency rescue officials. A distress call was sent to the Navy and the National Emergency management Agency asking for rescue. NEMA sources told reporters that 11 bodies have been recovered so far. Imposter: Fake Fashola’s Wife Charged

Mrs Asogbon Victoria , 53-year old teacher on grade level 10,  has been charged  before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court for allegedly impersonating the wives of Lagos State Governor, Dame Emmanuela Abimbola Fashola and her Osun State Counterpart, Mrs Sherifat Aregbesola. In a 10-count charge filed by the Lagos Attorney General before the court, Mrs Asogbon was alleged to have, at various times, represented herself as Mrs Fashola and Mrs Aregbesola through text messages to some individuals and collected huge sums of money and Ramadan gifts from them. In one of the charges, Mrs Asogbon was alleged to have fraudulently collected N100,000 from the Chairman of Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Government Council after sending him a text message claiming that she was sent to collect the money by Fashola’s wife. 3 policemen killed chasing okada in Lagos

Tthree policemen were feared killed while attempting to arrest a commercial motorcyclist. The incident occurred at the Cement Bus Stop, along the ever-busy Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, and led to heavy traffic on the road as well some other parts of Agege. An eyewitness who pleaded anonymity told Saturday Tribune that the policemen were attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS). According to the eyewitness, the commercial motorcyclist was going towards Oshodi, carrying two passengers, when the policemen sighted him and attempted to arrest him. “He also knew that they (policemen) wanted to arrest him and he sped off; but the policemen, who were in a van, chased him. A 30-year-old woman, Precious Adebayo, yesterday, narrated how she escaped from a suspected ritualist, Taiwo Balogun, who disguised as a commercial bus driver. Electrical Sparked Fire Razes 150 Shops at Trinity Spare Parts Market

Poor and unprofessional electrical connections again! "No fewer than 150 shops were razed, yesterday, at the Trinity Spare Parts Market in Ajegunle area of Lagos. Tragedy In Lagos as Container Fell Off a Truck On Eko Meat Van And Passer-by Crushed To Death

Yesterday was another sad day in Lagos along the Agege Motor Road, Ikeja, after a container fell off a truck and landed on an Eko meat van.  An unsuspecting male passer-by identified as a manager in Slot Electronics company, was reportedly crushed to death by the truck. Corruption: 157 LASTMA Officers Dismissed

The Lagos State Government has sacked 157 officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA over cases of gross misconduct. The names of 100 LASTMA officers sacked in April were published in the in-house newspaper of the state government, Alausa Alert, while 57 others were sacked a few weeks before the latest cleansing. The sacked officers were indicted for corruption, certificate forgery, bribery and dereliction of duty. The names of another batch of about 50 LASTMA officers have just been forwarded to the Personnel Management Board, PMB, the disciplinary organ of the government, to look into cases of gross misconduct against them. They also may be sacked in a few weeks’ to come. The dismissed LASTMA officers, whose pictures were published in Alausa Alert were made to face the PMB to prove their innocence but failed to do so. 21-yr-old Mother of 5 at Ikeja Magistrate Court, Rolled on the ground and Screamed For Help Least She Die Of Hunger

It was drama at the premises of an Ikeja Magistrate Court, Monday, when a 21- year-old woman, Esther Odozi, a farmer, rolled on the ground and screamed that she and her children were at the verge of dying from hunger. Odozi, who said she lives in Owanta village in Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State, came to Lagos last week and because she didn’t have anywhere to sleep, slept at Mountain of Fire  and Miracles Ministries where she begged for money to come to the old secretariat in Ikeja.
