David Cameron wants to help Algeria 'help themselves' cope with Al Qaeda

The menace of terrorist in Africa is beginning to prompt the westerners into defending the defenseless in the region. Britain wants to help countries like Algeria "to help themselves" cope with the growing Al Qaeda threat in north Africa, David Cameron said today.Speaking to reporters on his way to Algieria on the first visit by a British Prime Minister for 51 years, he said that the UK wanted to help the "neighbourhood" of north African states affected by Islamic extremism.

The visit comes a fortnight after scores of people were killed, including six Britons, after a shoot-out with Government forces following a hostage crisis at BP oil facility in In Amenas, in the Algerian desert.
He said: "The greatest threat to terrorism in this region is countries in this region. There is potential threats to the UK as well but the focus is very much on working with these countries to help protect their security and the security of British people in the region.
"It is very much about helping the neighbourhood to help themselves and that is particular the case with Mali."
He added that the most important aspect is "security cooperation and discussions about security issues in the region"
