Barely 24 hours after they were arrested, more details have emerged about why Reuben Abati, a former presidential spokesman, and Bala Mohammed, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, were arrested by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. Sources has it that, Mr. Abati received N50 million from the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki. The sources said Mr. Abati admitted taken the amount and explained how he spent it. Mr. Abati reportedly told investigators that he spent the N50 million on media relations that had to do with his work as a media adviser for Mr. Jonathan. Emirates, one of the biggest foreign airlines operating in Nigeria, has said it is stopping flight operations to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja effective October 22nd 2016. Similarly, East African carrier Kenya Airways, has announced that it will suspend flights to Abuja with effect from November 15, 2016 as part of its restructuring and loss saving efforts. The wife of Femi Fani-Kayode and her child are not in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and were never detained by the Commission, the commission has said. The clarification follows claims by the former minister that his wife and eight-month-old baby were arrested at an Edo-Ekiti branch of a bank and detained by EFCC operatives as she went there to withdraw some money.
