Ombatse:Is FG Going to declare state of emergency in Nasarawa?

While the spate of killings and clashes between the Ombatse militia group of Eggon and the Alago ethnic group in Nasarwa state goes  on unabated, the Federal government may be compelled to declare a state of emergency in the State. Stakeholders in the state were said to have commenced moves aimed at ensuring that the president decisively deals with the state through a state of emergence. Sources close to the workings within the state said that some members of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly and some members of the National Assembly from the state are working in tandem on how to ensure that President Goodluck Jonathan declares a state of emergency in the event that the spate of violence does not abate.

At least 39 killed and More Injured as Kenya mall is Attack

A tough day in Kenya as Armed gunmen waged a tense standoff with Kenyan police and soldiers inside an upscale Nairobi shopping mall early Sunday, hours after brazenly gunning down shoppers, diners and more. There were 39 confirmed dead as of around midnight Saturday, according to Kenya's president, who added his close relatives are among those killed. Two gunmen, including one who was detained after being shot, are also dead. Francis Kimenia, secretary to the Cabinet, tweeted another 293 people got treatment at three area hospitals, which "are appealing for more blood." The wounded range in age from 2 to 78, the disaster operations center said, urging people to "remember them in your prayers." Al-Shabaab, an al-Qaeda-linked militant group based in Somalia, claimed responsibility for the carnage and vowed not to negotiate with Kenyan authorities. Boko Haram Engages SSS in a gun battle in Abuja

Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram members on Friday morning engaged State Security  Service operatives in a gun battle at Apo Legislative quarters, Abuja. Some people were hurt and 12 suspects were arrested during the encounter. The SSS operatives had gone to the quarters to exhume weapons buried in an uncompleted building by Boko Haram members when they were attacked the sympathisers of the sect. More details later

" Good Governance Initiative, GGI, has disclosed that aside from being a dumping ground for power generating sets, Nigerians spent over N25 billion importing same in 2012, the highest in the world. President of the initiative, Mr. Festus Mbisiogu, called on Nigerians to extract a promise from the preferred bidders of the unbundled Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, assets to improve on the current generation of power to grow the economy. NECO Releases 2013 May/June SSCE result

National Examinations Council, NECO, has released the 2013 Senior Schools Certificate Examinations results, a breakdown of the results shows that about 69.57% of the candidate had credit generally while most of the students also came out with good results in both English Language and Mathematics, according to the registrar Professor Promise Nwachukwu Okpala, one million, fifty two thousand, eight hundred and ninety eight, 1,052,898 candidates registered for the examinations.

The Chief Executive Officer, Gold and Co., United Kingdom, Amjad Ali, has told a United Kingdom newspaper, The Independent, that the Federal Government has ordered 53 gold-plated iPhone 5S mobile handsets  from his firm as part of the memorabilia for the nation’s 53rd Independence anniversary on October 1, 2013. The gold iphones are said to worth £2.65m (about N682m). Each of the gold-plated iPhones costs up to £50,000, said The Independent, in its report on Wednesday. The minimum cost of basic models of iPhone in gold or rose gold is £3,000. The 53 special phones are to be supplied by Amjad Ali, a Bristol-born owner of Gold and Co. based in Dubai. The sacked ministers did not have any inkling of their impending sack as some of them attended the weekly FEC meeting, yesterday. Court Ordered an Ohio Man Who Threatened Police to Holds 'idiot' Sign Outside Police Station

An Ohio man who threatened an officers in Cleveland has been ordered by a court to apologize publicly by standing near a police station with a sign describing himself as an idiot. A judge had ordered 58-year-old Richard Dameron to stand outside a local police station with a sign bearing an apology. He began the vigil Monday and must stand outside for three hours each day for the rest of the week. Dameron was convicted of threatening officers in 911 calls. His public shaming isn't the first of its kind in the city. The Cleveland judge who sentenced Dameron previously made a woman wear an "idiot" sign in public for driving around a school bus.
