Lamido Sanusi’s First Interview Since Suspension

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi who was suspended by Mr President as CBN Governor,  was cut on camera for a first time interview after suspension.  Sanusi returned to Nigeria from Niger Republic, after attending an ECOWAS meeting. On his arrival at the Lagos International airport, the Nigerian SSS detained him and seized his passport.  Sahara Reporters was able to get an exclusive interview with the ousted CBN Governor.  Watch!

President Jonathan Appoints Godwin Emefiele New CBN Gov

       President Goodluck Jonathan has appointed managing director of Zenith Bank,Mr Godwin Emefiele as the new governor of Central Bank.  Information reaching us say the president has forwarded Mr Emefiele’s name to the Senate for approval. k He is the Group Managing Director, Zenith Bank Plc, a position he has held since August 2010. Until then he was the Deputy Managing Director of the bank, having been appointed into that position in 2001.         Emefiele has been on the bank’s management team since inception and has held various management positions in the bank, including serving as the Bank’s Executive Director in charge of Corporate Banking, Treasury, Financial Control and Strategic Planning.  Until he took over as Group Managing Director, Emefiele was directly responsible for all the Group’s local subsidiaries, Treasury and Correspondent Banking, and Multilateral, Conglomerates, & Private Banking.       He also had responsibilities for direct supervision of majority

President Jonathan Suspends Lamido Sanusi as CBN gov

President Jonathan has announced the suspension of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.  This was made known in a statement signed Thursday by Reuben Abati Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity.  The statement further Directed that the most Senior Deputy Governor of the CBN, “Dr Sarah Alade who will serve as Acting Governor until the conclusion of on-going investigations into breaches of enabling laws, due process and mandate of the CBN”.  The statement reads thus  Having taken special notice of reports of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria and other investigating bodies, which indicate clearly that Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi’s tenure has been characterized by various acts of financial recklessness and misconduct which are inconsistent with the administration’s vision of a Central Bank propelled by the core values of focused economic management, prudence, transparency and financial discipline;  Sanusi Sanusi Being also deeply concerned

FACEBOOK BUYS WHATSAPP FOR $19 BILLION

Bad or good news  WhatsApp users?   Facebook announced late Wednesday that it has acquired messaging app WhatsApp for $19 billion. Yes, that’s billion, with a “b.” We’ll give you a moment to pick your jaw off the floor.  The WhatsApp deal involves some $4 billion in cash, and another $12 billion worth of Facebook stock up front – that equals $16 billion, in case you don’t have a calculator in front of you. WhatsApp’s founders and employees will also receive another $3 billion in Facebook shares over the next four years, bringing the total cost of the acquisition to $19 billion. The deal has been confirmed in documents filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.  Facebook has agreed to pay WhatsApp $1 billion in cash and to issue $1 billion in Facebook stock as a breakup fee, if the SEC does not approve the deal.  A quick look at the numbers shows why Facebook spent billions on a 5-year-old text messaging alternative. 3 Students Dead, 10 Trapped after South Korean University Roof Collapsed

At least three university students have died and about 10 others were feared trapped after the roof of a building collapsed, a South Korean official said. The three students were pronounced dead at hospitals, an official at the state-run National Emergency Management Agency said. About 1,000 students from Busan University of Foreign Studies were at an orientation event for first-year students in the south-eastern city of Gyeongju, the official said. About 450 were in a building when its roof collapsed. He said many managed to get out by themselves and about 20 were later rescued and taken to hospitals. He did not provide further details.

Tiwa Savage Arrested, for Alleged Police Assault

Mavin Records artiste, Tiwa Savage, has been arrested by the police for allegedly humiliating a policeman who apprehended her for violating some provisions of the Lagos State Road Traffic Law. Savage, often referred to as Mavin First Lady, was said to have argued with the policeman, who flagged her down for flouting traffic rules in front of Eko Hotels and Suites Victoria Island, on Saturday. Savage came down from the vehicle she was driving in and confronted the policeman. During the ensuing argument with the cop, Savage, who was said to have been infuriated by the development, allegedly removed the cap of the policeman. A policeman at the station, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said Savage was released shortly after. Jonathan Names Replacements For Oduah, Other Sacked Ministers

Goodluck Jonathan relieved  four ministers of their appointments to enable them to pursue their respective political and economic interests, the Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku, said. Maku made the disclosure when he briefed State House correspondents on the outcome of the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, chaired by President Goodluck Jonathan. The minister said that those affected include Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, Minister of Niger Delta, Mr Godsday Orubebe, Minister of Police Affairs, Retired Navy Capt. Caleb Olubolade and Minister of State for Finance, Alhaji Yerima Ngama. Maku added that the President had also announced further changes in the Federal Executive Council. He noted that a number of ministers had been asked to step out of the Federal Executive council to pursue their interest. Close to 20 people killed again in Plateau

Close to 20 people were again killed in Plateau State, yesterday, when gunmen invaded Mavou village in Wase Local Government Area. The latest killing is coming barely 48 hours after over 30 people were killed in two villages of Riyom LGA. Reports from Wase said the attackers who invaded the village at abut 2a.m. also torched abut 10 houses. A resident who gave his name as Nangak said the attackers came in large number and shot sporadically as they raided the village. The motive for the attack could not be immediately ascertained, but there had been skirmishes among communities in the local government for some time now. It was learnt that additional security had been deployed to the area to restore normalcy. Police spokesperson in the state, DSP Felicia Anslem confirmed the attack, but said she was yet to get the details.

Policeman nabbed Demanding Dollar-bribe

The Police High Command in Abuja,  yesterday, said it has identified the policeman who was caught in a hidden camera allegedly demanding for  dollar bribe. The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Frank Mba, who made this known to Vanguard in a statement, said the policeman had been arrested and is currently in custody. He added that the suspect, who is now in police custody, is undergoing Orderly Room Trial and if found guilty, will face appropriate disciplinary action. According to him, “the IGP has commended the unknown whistle blower in this case for his painstaking efforts in exposing what would have been a hidden crime.
