Barely 24 hours after they were arrested, more details have emerged about why Reuben Abati, a former presidential spokesman, and Bala Mohammed, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, were arrested by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. Emirate and Kenya Airways Stops Flights to Abuja

Emirates, one of the biggest foreign airlines operating in Nigeria, has said it is stopping flight operations to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja effective October 22nd 2016. Similarly, East African carrier Kenya Airways, has announced that it will suspend flights to Abuja with effect from November 15, 2016 as part of its restructuring and loss saving efforts. Our correspondent gathered from industry sources that Emirates has formally written the Minister of State, Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika over its intention to stop flight operations into Abuja following the airline's inability to buy forex and remit its sales. EFCC Claims They Never detain Mrs. Fani-Kayode

The wife of Femi Fani-Kayode and her child are not in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and were never detained by the Commission, the commission has said. The clarification follows claims by the former minister that his wife and eight-month-old baby were arrested at an Edo-Ekiti branch of a bank and detained by EFCC operatives as she went there to withdraw some money. FG Sacks 22 Top Management Staff Of Federal Airports Authority , Demotes Others

Sources saya massive retrenchment exercise at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) exercise has resulted to at least 22 management staff, including General Managers and Deputy General Managers loosing their jobs: The letters were reported distributed to them wenesday morning, following the exercise, some General Managers that were not sacked by the government were heavily demoted. For instance, a General Manager on Grade Level 17 was demoted to 10, as was the agency’s Ag. Director of Finance. As of the time of filing this story, it was gathered that the committee responsible for the exercise was still in the FAAN boardroom sending out more letters to affected staff. DSS Invades Homes Of Federal Judges In Abuja

According to reports, contingent of officers from the Department of State Security (DSS) yesterday evening surrounded the home of two Nigerian federal judges, Nnamdi Dimgba and Adebiyi Ademola. The federal judges currently reside at 32 and 34 Samuel Ogbemudia Cresent in the Apo Legislative Quarters of Abuja. The invading officers arrived and surrounded Justice Dimgba’s home around 9PM Nigerian time, according to sources speaking to SaharaReporters. Shortly after the siege, neighbors of the judge told SaharaReporters that the DSS agents began breaking into his compound with a sledgehammer. Mr. Dimgba was reportedly not at home at the time of the invasion. However, a source said DSS had been uncomfortable with recent rulings by the judge and because of his vocal criticism of DSS for violating rights of persons detained at its facility. The Lead prosecuting counsel, Mr.  Aliyu Umar (SAN), told the trial judge, Justice Yusuf Halilu of the Jabi Division of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, that, “This government respects the rule of law, and hierarchy of the judiciary. It is obvious from these two applications (filed by Saraki and Ekweremadu) and the similar case before your learned brother, Justice Kolawole, at the Federal High Court who is dealing with the issue that we are withdrawing the charges. “It is trite that two matters of the same subject matter cannot be before different courts of coordinate jurisdiction. “Therefore, the amended charge dated October 5, 2016 and also the original dated June 10, 2016 and filed the same date be struck out and all the four defendants be discharged.”

Forgery Suit: Federal Government withdraws charge against Saraki, Ekweremadu, others

The Federal Government of Nigeria has filed a motion to withdraw the charge of criminal conspiracy against Senate President Bukola Saraki and his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu. An affidavit in support of the motion was filed before the High Court of Federal Capital Territory on Thursday by a litigation officer from the Federal Ministry of Justice, Odubu Loveme. Messrs. Saraki and Ekweremadu, as well as a former Clerk of the National Assembly, Salisu Maikasuwa, and a former Deputy clerk, Ben Efeturi, were first arraigned before Justice Yusuf Halilu on June 10, 2016 via charge No. CR/219/16. They all pleaded not guilty on July 27, 2016. In the motion filed Thursday, Mr. Loveme said counsel to the Federal Government on the matter, Aliyu Umar, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, on September 30 in the office of the Director of Public Prosecution told him that he had studied the case diary and “ had decided to amend the charge in the manner stated on the face of the motion paper”. Students Narrates Ordeal as Gunmen Storm their School in Lagos

 Suspected militants, yesterday, stormed Lagos State Model College, Igbonla in Eredo Local Council Development Area, Epe, Lagos State, kidnapping the school’s Vice Principal, a teacher and four students. The two students were later rescued by policemen who immediately arrived the scene. The gunmen, over 10, it was gathered, came through the waterways in three speed boats. Ghana To Be Major Hub for Petroleum products in West African including Nigeria

This should not shock you that Ghana will soon be the hub for the distribution of petroleum products in the West African sub-region, as it has started exporting fuel and gas oil to Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali from the Bolgatanga Petroleum Depot. The state-owned Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOST) Limited, is also supplying petroleum products from the same depot to Benin Republic and Nigeria.       Making this known at a meet-the-press series in Accra, , Ghana’s Minister of Petroleum, Mr Emmanuel Buah Armah-Kofi ,said there were plans to extend the exports to Liberia in the coming months.     He said the vision of the government was to make Ghana the hub for the distribution of petroleum products in the West African sub-region.
