Atiku, Tinubu meet Obasanjo in Abeokuta

Nigeria political games cannot be predicted by political students, because nigeria have their own ways of politicking, Atiku Abubakar, on Friday held a closed-door meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, at Mr. Obasanjo’s home in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Mr. Abubakar, who was vice president under Mr. Obasanjo, was at his former boss’ home in the afternoon, with a convoy of vehicles carrying several supporters.

On arrival, Mr. Abubakar went into a closed-door meeting with Mr. Obasanjo, which lasted for over 30 minutes.

His supporters remained outside singing Atiku’s praises.

Mr. Abubakar had earlier paid a visit to the Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, and later held a meeting with APC supporters in the state.

Mr. Abubakar was accompanied to Mr. Obasanjo’s home by a former Minister of Education, Babalola Aborishade, who is also the director general of the Atiku Campaign Organisation, and Oyewole Fasawe, an associate of Mr. Obasanjo.

Others at the meeting were Maxwell Gidado, the Director, Legal of the Atiku Campaign, Mohammed Ohiare and Adeolu Akande.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Mr. Abubakar said he had come to pay his respects to Mr. Obasanjo and to discuss the state of the nation. He maintained that his relationship with Mr. Obasanjo was extremely cordial.

He expressed regret at the defection of a former Ogun State Governor, Olusegun Osoba, from the APC to the Social Democratic Party, SDP. He said Mr. Osoba’s exit was unfortunate, but expressed hope that the situation was redeemable.

Mr. Osoba is reportedly at loggerheads with the state Governor, Mr. Amosun.

“Yes, I’m the chairman of the South-West reconciliatory committee but we have also decided to set up an elders sub-committee of that committee to try and see if there would be what I call ‘internal reconciliation’ before the bigger committee looks at the reconciliation process,” he said. “This is a situation that has been going on for quite some time and we’ve not given up.”

Meanwhile, prior to Mr. Abubakar’s visit, a former Lagos State Governor and APC leader, Bola Tinubu, had also visited the former President.

However, Mr. Tinubu, after the meeting left without speaking to journalists.
