Abuja, Several Routes closed as First Lady, NCWS Holds Rally Tagged “Celebration of Nigerian Women for Peace and Empowerment”
The early hours of today thursday was hectic in the Capital city of Nigeria, as several routes in the capital were blocked following a mass rally and carnival organized by the Nigerian women under the auspices of Nigerian Council of Women
Society (NCWS) to take “stock of the gains recorded
so far in the empowerment of Nigerian women and the quest for peace in
the country” at the popular Eagles Square.
The rally which was tagged “Celebration of Nigerian Women for Peace and Empowerment” witnessed by various women across most Nigerian states was heralded by a motorized mass rally from Old Parade Ground area 10 through designated route with the campaign posters of the President Goodluck Jonathan on each truck used by the women and some men.
The women, were dressed in wrappers with pictures of Goodluck Jonathan converged.
The Rally was also attended by some female members of President Jonathan’s cabinet, members of the National Assembly and other prominent women leaders.
The wife of the Vice President, Amina Sambo was also present and taking the salute of women as they marched past with their banners according to their states or groups. However, the closure of the major road in front of the venue of the rally resulted in unprecedented traffic gridlock with many motorists stuck in the traffic for many hours.
The City was choked up as massive security was in place, soldiers and well armed policemen were posted to strategic areas of the Abuja metropolis.

The traffic in the city was something else as all roads from Berger Junction, Central Business Area, and Secretariat were blocked for the rally, which led serious holdups across the accessible routes.
To cap the activities of the day an elaborate dinner party is slated for the International Conference Centre tonight.
The event which will also feature performances by popular musical artistes including Onyeka Onwenu, Yinka Ayefele, Iyanya, Sani Danja and several nigerian comedians.
