14 Traffic Offenders jailed in Akwa Ibom

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Akwa Ibom on weekday said it prosecuted ninety one traffic offenders in its mobile court for varied offences from january to july.
The Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr Gods-Gift Uwem, told the news agency of nigeria (NAN) in Uyo, that seventy seven persons were guilty whereas fourteen persons were jail without choice of fine.
According to him, those in remission were prosecuted and convicted for offences like non-use of safety belt, poor lighting system, dangerous driving, use of phone whereas driving and drivers’ licence violation.
“The offenders were sentenced at the discretion of the magistrate, betting on the traffic offence committed and in line with the stipulated punishment.
“Most of these sentenced to jail were made to serve for periods starting from the minimum of two weeks to most of 3 months,” he said.
He said the choice to prosecute offenders was to force motorists to infuse driving culture and drive to stay alive with a view to reducing carnage on the roads
