Ex -police constable caught trying to steal car


An ex -police Constable, Bestman Umaru, has been arrested by policemen at Gwagwalada Division while trying to steal a Honda Civic car.
An eyewitness, Usman Haruna, informed our reporter that the suspect was trying to steal the car along Gwagwalada market road when someone suspected him and called the police, who came  and  arrested him immediately.

“I didn’t even know that he was an ex-police officer until after his arrest when his identity was disclosed,” he said.
A resident of Gwagwalada, Mama Chioma, said that the ex -police officer used to come to her shop, “pack indomie and provision and when it is time to pay up his debt,” he would threaten her with gun.
When contacted, the FCT police spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent Hyelhira Altine Daniel, confirmed the arrest, adding that “on that Friday police at Gwagwalada got a distressed call that someone was trying to steal a Honda Civic car from where it was parked.’’
She said policemen rushed to the scene of the crime and arrested one Bestman Umar, a dismissed police constable.
The police spokesperson said after interrogation, a Toyota Camry saloon car, was recovered from him, adding that investigation is still ongoing and he will be thereafter charged to court accordingly.
