The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has paraded seven suspected pipeline vandals and illegal filling station operators in Abuja.
Parading the suspects, the Commandant of the Command, Alh Aminu Kofar Soro said the suspects were apprehended in Kabusa and Gwagwalada areas of the FCT on Wednesday.
"All of them were apprehended in Gwagwalada, Kabusa and Lugbe area where they were operating illegal filling stations, vandalising pipelines and also diverting fuel."
He said they operate as syndicates with some breaking the pipelines while others sell the products.
Alh Soro alleged that two illegal filing stations were identified in Kabusa while a tanker belonging to Oando Oil was arrested dispatching kerosene to surface tanks in the same area.
The tank with Kaduna registration number: AH 354-DKA was said to have no genuine document about the products it was carrying.
The Commandant said his command earlier arrested ten vandals who he said, were presently in prison.
He also said the imprisoned criminals provided intelligent information that led to the arrest of the suspects.
On the contrary
However, the owner of the products contained in the tanker, Madu Onyinwara said he had his genuine papers which was presented to the Corps.
"I have my Way bill which has been presented to them. I don't know what they wanted apart from that?"
He said among the seven suspects paraded by the Corps, six were his employees.
"Among the seven of them, six were with the tanker...the driver and other boys."
Moses Adejo who was arrested for operating an illegal filing station in Kabusa asked for leniency.
He however said though he didn't have the documents to start a filing station, he had not started selling petroleum products when he was arrested.
