Scores killed, two helicopters, others burnt as troops pursue terrorists

This news is not cheering at all, when we thought the military is winning the fight against the terrorists comes another big bang! "Unconfirmed report has it that over 20 security operatives were killed while two helicopters at the 79 Composite Group, NAF Base headquarters were burnt down completely including some Staff Quarters. This is even as one of the armoured tankers belonging to the 7 Division was seized from the military by the attackers, but was later recovered when it was abundant after it developed technical fault in the process of using it by the insurgents.

Also, 4 innocent civilians/residents in Kofa outskirts of Gomari Airport ward were shot dead by the insurgents on their way to escape through Kofa village while 2 Michika youths operating a chemists/patent medicine store [name withheld] were slaughtered by the terrorists.

Speaking to our Correspondent, a top government official who resides with his family at the 707 Housing Estate but did not want his name mentioned in print said, “a police outpost which now turned to be a military check point at the entrance of the Main Gate was also attacked and razed down.

He said, few days ago, there were three suspected foreigners arrested and were detained in the police outpost which is just 50 meters away to the main gate of the estate, and when the terrorists gained entrance, they opened fire on the detained foreigners thinking they were security men, a situation which led to the death of two of them, while the other foreigner sustained gunshot injury on his head.

Also burnt down by the terrorists according to sources are petrol filling station along the Maiduguri- Jimtilo- Damaturu Federal highway, as well as several vehicles waiting for service at different mechanical workshops along the main road.

3 bungalow flats opposite the NAF Base were also not left out in the clash as they were burnt down completely, the Spokesman of the 7 Division, Colonel Mohammed Dole confirmed the multiple attacks and killings by the terrorists suspected to be Boko Haram sects.

In a press statement he issued to newsmen, Dole said, ” In the early hours of Monday 2 December 2013, Boko Haram terrorists attempted to gain access to Military locations in Maiduguri Metropolis. However, troops of the 7 Division, Nigerian Army have successfully repelled the insurgents and afflicted serious casualties on them.

” The situation around Jimtilo and Maiduguri International Airport General Areas are now calm and under control. Our troops supported by Nigerian Air force aircrafts are presently pursuing the terrorists towards the Maiduguri- Beneshiekh- Damaturu road. Members of the general public are requested to remain calm and comply with the 24 hours curfew imposed by the Borno State Government. The curfew will be reviewed periodically as the situation improves”. The full text of the statement revealed.

Although, Colonel Dole who briefly spoke to Journalists at the Government House did not give further details on the number of casualties from the side of the military or the terrorists, but insisted that during the attacks, the military troops were able to inflict serious casualties on the terrorists.

He said, ” gentlemen, in will still come back and furnish you with further details, as at now, we are busy, but I will get back to you, please exercise patience”. Dole said after issuing his statement" VANGUARD NEWS
