The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) administration on Monday began the restriction of mini-buses popularly called “Araba” to satellite towns and area councils within the federal capital, they are disallowed from entering the city centre. The decision to restrict the operation of the buses to certain areas in the suburbs was in line with a policy which would ensure the replacement of the minibuses with high capacity buses.
The FCT urban mass transits i.e the high capacity buses will now be commuting FCT residents to and fro the various exits of the capital territory from were the minibuses will transport commuters to their various locations, good! number one! this process has increased the the fare and time workers spend in moving to and fro their offices, well as our report today is not to condemn the mass transport scheme that FCTA has embarked upon, because we know FCTA still needs some time to fine tune the process;
But we are reporting and condemning the designated bus-stop for Mpape residents, it is a very wrong position knowing fully well the history of that slope with all the Tipper Lorries, Caterpillars, Tankers etc that ply that slope day and night of course we know that every now and then they swerved out of the road either because of failed brake or other unattended issues in their vehicles.
FCT administration the first point of call for your fine tuning in your transportation polices should be the relocation of these Mpape bus stop, it is very necessary you fine a better spot for these bus stop so that the good you are trying to do will not turn soar at the end of the day!
While we will not mince words in commending the FCTA in taking the first step of starting the the transport policy we want to also urge them to make available more buses, design lanes for the buses better bus stops, if you are taking after Lagos State, we also think you do it even better than Lagos state;
