Abuja traders have kicked against the implementation of the PROService programme, saying that government should take a closer look before its enactment.
Chairman of Gudu Amalgamated Traders Association, Barthlomew Ezike, made this known during the Consumer Protection Commission (CPC) sensitization campaign in the market.
PROServices is commonly known as Document Clearing Services that act as “bridge” between government and the company transacting with any government department.
Ezike said the traders know the implication of trading in fake products, saying that is why they are selling the best materials in the market.
CPC director general said it is products that individuals are bringing into the country that government said should be registered.
She said the objective of the campaign is to provide useful information to consumers so as to educate them to make informed decisions when purchasing goods or seeking services, in return, obtain satisfaction for value received in exchange for their hard earned money.
She said it is also aimed at educating consumers on their basic rights and responsibilities and equally enlightening businessmen of their duties and obligations to the consumers in order to encourage healthy competition in the market and service delivery.
Umenyi warned that, “henceforth any market that has proliferation of substandard or fake products, the council would hold the market executives responsible,” adding that “any problem with the consumer that cannot be resolved by the market executives, such should immediately be made know to the council for necessary action.”
