The Police in Abuja on Wednesday arraigned a 41-year-old man, who claimed to be a police officer before an Abuja Magistrate Court for allegedly threatening a girl with a toy gun.
Gabriel James of Osun State was charged with impersonating public servant, wearing dress and carrying a token used by a public servant as well as criminal intimidation, offenses that contravened Sections 132, 133 and 397 of the Penal Code.
Police Prosecutor, Igonoh Ocholi, told the court that on February 11, the accused presented himself to a police patrol team as Coporal Gabrial James and dressed in a police uniform.
He said by so doing, the accused impersonated a police officer with intention to deceive the police patrol team and unsuspecting members of the public.
The prosecutor further alleged that the accused used a toy gun in the shape of a pistol to threaten one Joy Okafor of Kubwa village.
When the charges were read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty and the prosecutor asked for a date for hearing.
Magistrate Samuel Edhiari granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with a surety in like sum, who must be residing within the court’s jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned to March 18, for hearing
