FCT: Abuja Water Treatment Plant will soon be Completed December

The contractor handling the third and fourth multi billion naira new Abuja water treatment plants at Lower Usuma Dam and M/S Bi-Water Nigeria Limited, has been given marching orders to deliver the project which is now 96 percent complete on or before December 2012
.

The order was given on Friday by the FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed, when he inspected on-going projects at the dam as part of the FCT National Good Governance Tour organized by the Federal Ministry of Information.
The minister disclosed that the FCT Administration has met all its contractual obligations, as all payments due for the project is up to date and so the government is not owing the contractor a dime.
Senator Mohammed reiterated that the treatment plants when completed will get its raw water from the main Lower Usuma Dam and the Gurara Dam, which is about 74 kilometres away.
According to him, the current water capacity being treated and reticulated to the Abuja metropolis and its environs is about 10,000 cubic meters per hour.
"When this project is completed and put into use, about 20 million liters of water will be treated and supplied to Abuja residents which are three times the current production," he explained.
The minister, who stated that the project was at 95 percent completion when he took over the mantle of leadership of FCT, said the Tanks I & VI now under construction will be fed from the new Water Treatment Plants.
Responding, Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, lauded the FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed for being able to achieve concrete results and for checking water scarcity problems.
